ASSUMPTION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — A Napoleonville man pled guilty to multiple charges in a 2021 drive-by shooting.

Derrick Haughton, 34, of Napoleonville pled guilty to four counts of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of cruelty to juveniles on Wednesday, Nov. 2, according to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Officials said deputies responded to a Paincourtville shooting on May 19, 2021, where investigators later learned that Haughton intervened in a fight between juveniles and assaulted two of the juveniles. When he left the area, he was followed by a juvenile’s parent before he fired shots at the vehicle. Two adults and two juveniles were inside the vehicle, the district attorney’s office said.

Haughton’s sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a pre-sentence investigation, according to the district attorney’s office.
