BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — L’Auberge Casino & Hotel in Baton Rouge announced the addition of six new electric vehicle (EV) chargers in its parking garage Thursday.
According to the casino hotel, the new EV chargers are located on the first and second floors of the parking garage.
East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced a strategic plan to expand the parish’s EV charging infrastructure on Friday, Sept. 30. The proposed plan includes targeting four categories — charging infrastructure, municipal fleet, outreach and awareness, and partnership and funding.
”This strategy will help make electric vehicles more accessible and sustainable for our community. Supporting EV technology is critical to reducing emissions, improving our air quality, and building a more climate resilient community,” said Mayor Broome in a statement.
The plan shows the City-Parish’s sights are set on installing EV chargers in downtown, LSU, and North Baton Rouge. Local leaders’ reason for targeting these areas is because of the high concentration of renter-occupied housing.
Statewide, the federal government approved of Louisiana’s plan to deploy 394 charging stations along a corridor in September. The state will be receiving $73 million over five years for EV infrastructure projects.
