Thursday evening people in Acension Parish got to see if they could be at risk of flooding this spring and summer.
FEMA and Acension Parish Officials showed them new flood maps. These maps show how flood risks have changed, and if maybe new structures had been built or taken down in the area.
Since the floods of 2016 the maps have helped people, businesses, and the city know how to keep people and property safe from flooding.
FEMA rate map changes are said to lower current insurance rates for more than 1,200 property owners along the southern part of the parish. Meanwhile, the new change are expected to place at least 340 owners in higher rates. The changes begin May 15.
