NEW ROADS, La. (BRPROUD) – The City of New Roads held a pop-up shop to help small businesses impacted by the pandemic.
Friday, dozens of tents lined Main street selling everything from clothes, accessories and skin care products.
The two day event was designed to help businesses impacted by Covid-19.
“I’ve had people stop by and visit. It’s been enjoyable so far,” said Unique Creations by Majken Cole owner, Majken Cole
“Just being able to see different businesses out, trying to recuperate from such a drastic change in everybody’s lives, it’s amazing,” said Author of Broken But Not Shattered, Kenya London
New Roads resident Deedra Lacombe said supporting her community is what makes the “Prettiest City On The Water” special.
“It’s wonderful. It’s a great idea to stimulate business in this area after the pandemic I think it’s great,” said Lacombe.
Events like this typically come with a vendor fee, but the mayor waived those expenses allowing everyone to participate.
“We wanted to do something that help them come out here and make money at no cost to them so that way they don’t have to worry about overhead expenses and just come out, put their shops up and sell as much as they can,” said New Roads Mayor, Cornell Dukes
For these business owners, this gesture means a lot after losing so much.
It’s been enjoyable,” said Cole.
The Pop-up shop continues Saturday, May 8th, 8 AM-5 PM
