New safety rules in place along the Amite River

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – New mandates are in place for those that want to go tubing on the Amite River in Livingston Parish.

On Thursday the Livingston Parish Council agreed to adopt new river safety regulations.

Tubers and swimmers will now have to watch a water safety training video before entering the water.

Life vests are also required, and new signs will be added along the river in areas deeper than four feet. Boats are exempt from the new rules.

The new rules were put into place after dozens of water rescues and two deaths were reported at Tiki Tubing this summer.
