BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Count down to 2023 with live music and fireworks along the Mississippi River in downtown Baton Rouge.
The city will be hosting its 10th anniversary Red Stick Revelry on New Year’s Eve. The tradition includes live music and the midnight drop of a nine-foot LED red stick in Town Square.
“I am excited to bring in another New Year for Baton Rouge and continue this 10-year tradition,” said Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. “Red Stick Revelry has helped make Baton Rouge a regional destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations, which means business for our community. I ask everyone to celebrate safely as we are joined by neighbors and visitors for another great evening in Baton Rouge.”
Before nighttime celebrations begin, there will be a kid-friendly event called Red Stick Rising from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the River Center Branch Library. The mayor’s office said activities include arts and crafts, meeting stilt walker The Amazing Bacon and singing “Auld Lang Syne” as the Red Stick is raised above Town Square.
New Year’s Eve fun by the river begins at 8 p.m. in Town Square with music by Shawn Ward Xperience. Phat Hat will take the stage at 9:30 p.m.
As the Red Stick drops, watch the fireworks show over the Mississippi River at midnight.
