NATCHITOCHES, La. (BRPROUD) – Northwestern State University (NSU) announced on May 13 that Lela Mae Wilkes, the owner of a trucking company based in Baton Rouge, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities on May 11.

Wilkes owns Brown Eagle, which provides logistics solutions for manufacturers across the country. Brown Eagle is also the only woman-owned business of its kind, according to an NSU press release.

She graduated from NSU in 1968. She is recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the School of Business.
