BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Ochsner Health donated a $4 million leadership gift to Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Human Services and Education to build an Ochsner Wellness Center within the Huey P. Long Field House.

The announcement was made in a press release on Thursday, Nov. 4.

The Ochsner Wellness Center at LSU will bring together a diverse group of experts to address chronic health issues and behavioral health to improve the state of health for Louisiana by 2030.

“Healthy State isn’t a wish list item, it’s a commitment by Ochsner to improve health equity and health outcomes. This is a bold vision and a necessary one. Louisiana has consistently ranked at or near the bottom of the country for nearly a decade, placing 49th in 2020 by America’s Health Rankings. We can’t wait any longer. The time is now to work together and do everything possible to improve health and wellness in our state,” said Ochsner Health President and CEO Warner Thomas.

The new Ochsner Wellness Center is part of the $29 million renovation partnership with the state and through philanthropic gifts from individuals and industry leaders, according to a news release.

The renovation of Huey P. Long Field House will include world-class laboratories, classrooms, collaborative spaces for engaging in cutting-edge research, high-tech teaching and more, the press release stated.

“We proudly share Ochsner Health’s fierce determination to serve, heal, lead, educate and innovate. Louisiana is on the frontlines of a national crisis in physical wellness, and LSU and Ochsner have the assets and expertise to address that crisis. The Ochsner Wellness Center unites our resources to benefit the health of communities throughout our state,” said LSU President William Tate.
