Officer involved car chase, one dead

The two surviving suspects of the crash have been released and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison.

According to officials, driver Nicholas Paul, 20, has been charged with armed robbery, negligent homicide, aggravated flight, reckless operation and stop sign. Front passenger 28-year-old Shabastin Paul has been booked on an armed robbery charge.

The third passenger, 17-year-old Jerrold Sherbin, who was riding in the rear died.

The investigation is still ongoing.


Baton Rouge Police are investigating an early morning stolen vehicle chase involving a BRPD squad car which has reportedly resulted in a fatal crash that occurred around 1:13 a.m Saturday August 18.

According to reports, an officer began pursuit of a 2004 Honda Accord connected to a reported armed car theft around the 3400 block Elm Street shortly before 1 a.m.

BRPD says the vehicle attempted to cross Evangeline Street running a stop sign which caused the officer to T-bone the vehicle at the intersection.

There were allegedly three passengers in the fleeing car with one of the passengers dying as a result of the crash. The other passengers along with the officer involved were transported to a nearby medical facility with minor to moderate injuries.
