UPDATE- EBRSO: Poydras Ave. shooting stems from counterfeit money and drug dispute

BATON ROUGE, LA (BRProud) — EBRSO officials have arrested individuals who were present inside a residence located on the 14000 block of Poydras Ave. where one man was shot dead after an apparent drug deal took a deadly turn.

Eddie Turner and Juan Banks were arrested for the death of 29-year-old Freddie Banks, intent to sale and distribution of a dangerous controlled substance. Emmitt Smith was arrested for distribution of a dangerous controlled substance.

According to EBRSO’s investigation, the three men were apart of an apparent marijuana and money transaction. During the transaction, Turner noticed that some of the money was fake and confronted the victim. Turner alleges that the Freddie Banks reached for a gun in his waistband and that is when Turner shot the victim. As the victim bled, the co-defendants held Emmett Hills, who was with the victim, at gunpoint and refused to allow him to leave. Approximately an hour past before law enforcement was notified, during which co-defendant Banks admitted to removed some drugs and left the area.

Video surveillance inside the residence confirmed the drug deal and the shooting that followed. A search of the property found numerous counterfeit U.S. currency bills, marijuana and three handguns.

The shooting happened in the 14000 block of Poydras Avenue off of Siegen Lane.
