BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One juvenile inmate remains on the run after escaping the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center Thursday night.

Police identified him as 18-year-old Malik Williams.

Additionally, the other four who were found faced new charges on Friday. According to BRPD, one of the four facing these new charges is 18-year-old Jordan Pough. He is now in the parish prison.

Baton Rouge Police said the apprehended inmates were booked for aggravated escape from a penal institution, armed robbery, battery of a correctional facility employee and theft of a motor vehicle.

City-Parish Chief Communications Officer Mark Armstrong said four managed to get away Thursday night in a stolen vehicle, while the other one got away on foot.

“We’re getting older youth who are 17 and 18 years old who are accused of much more violent crimes. So that is a transition we are going through here,” said Armstrong.

East Baton Rouge Parish Division B Juvenile Court Judge Gail Grover said each escapee will have their due process.

“We’ll have a detention hearing and be brought before the court to determine if there’s probable cause for the charge in which they were arrested,” she explained.

She said after a likely court appearance on the new charges the inmates could be moved to parish prison. Grover said things can also get a little more complex with group escapes.

“And then, in that case, we must be mindful that conflict attorneys may have to be appointed to represent the different interests of the youth,” she explained.

Police are asking for help in finding the last escapee, Malik Williams. If you have any information, contact BRPD or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
