UPDATE: Suspect arrested in connection to early morning double shooting at Nicholson Drive apartment complex

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – EBRSO arrested a suspect and released more information about the early morning shooting at a Nicholson Drive apartment.

Authorities said they received information about a 20-year-old male victim shot several times and pronounced dead by EMS inside the residence. A female victim was also shot and transported to a local hospital in critical condition, however, authorities said she is expected to survive her injuries.

EBRSO investigation revealed that the victim and the alleged shooter were roommates. Both individuals had an argument before the suspect used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot the victim.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and recovered multiple shell casings as well as the weapon used in the shooting.

Further investigation by detectives revealed the identity of the shooter, Channin Sells.

Sells confessed to shooting the victim to EBRSO detectives and claimed it was out of self-defense. Additionally, he could not provide detectives with an explanation for shooting the female victim.

EBRSO arrested Sells and booked him into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

He faces charges of First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder.

It happened around 3:40 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 11000 block of Nicholson Drive. A spokesperson for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened after an altercation. One man was killed and another was taken to the hospital.

EBRSO has not said what, if any, charges are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.
