A single vehicle crash in St. Landry Parish took the life of an Opelousas Man early Sunday morning.
On December 31, just after 1 a.m., Louisiana State Police troopers started an investigation into a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 103 at Frilot Cove Rd in St. Landry Parish.
According to LSP, the crash took the life of 18-year-old Ethan Thibodeaux, of Opelousas.
M/T Brooks David of the Louisiana State Police said the initial investigation by State Police revealed that Thibodeaux was operating a 2009 Chevrolet truck south on LA 103.
At some point the vehicle traveled off of the left side of the roadway, struck a tree and became fully engulfed in flames.
The Troopers investigation found that due to the vehicle fire, it could not be determined if Thibodeaux was wearing a seat belt.
Thibodeaux sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office.
Two passengers in Thibodeaux’s vehicle were wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries.
LSP said they were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, routine toxicology samples are pending.
This crash remains under investigation.
