BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Starting Monday, more people in Louisiana will be eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
It’s COVID shot day for Brian Fennell.
“It was quick, painless, almost painless, but it was quick and easy. No problem whatsoever,” said Fennell.
Fennell said he waited a while to get his shot, but starting on Monday, other people won’t have to.
“Monday, we’re going to expand vaccine eligibility to include all essential workers in priority group 1b,” said Governor John Bel Edwards.
That expansion includes a long list of workers in several different industries including bus drivers, grocery store workers, and higher education.
“We feel like they probably do need to expand it so we can get more people vaccinated,” said Dr. Eric Peters, owner of Lagniappe Pharmacy.
Dr. Peters said they are staffing up to take the increased number of calls they expect of people making appointments. He said they are ready.
“We do have doses available and we have the staff that’s ready to give it. So, we’re pretty much ready,” said Dr. Peters.
As more people sign up to get the shot, Fennell said it’s a personal choice.
“I think everybody should if they are eligible to, Then I think they should, but also my thoughts are, if they don’t want to, then I’m fine with that also,” said Fennell.
