Pierre Part seeing high waters, Superintendent ends elementary school early

Local News

Assumption Parish Superintendent Jeremy Couvillion has announced the last day of the 2018-2019 school year for Pierre Part Elementary School is Tuesday, May 21, 2019; rather than Thursday, May 23.

The decision comes from high water reports within the community. Drivers must slow down because the roads are flooded as you go into the city. Once you get into the city; drivers will see more water in certain parts of the community.

Buses will not run in the community on Wednesday and Thursday.

Superintendent Couvillion was not availble for an on-camera interview; however, the school system released a statement warning parents that Assumption High School will run a full day Tuesday, May 21 to allow students to complete their final exams and it will remain open and running on a normal schedule Wednesday and Thursday for students who can come to school safely.

If students are not able to make it to school safely; they will be excused.
