Plaquemine woman indicted on fraud charges

PLAQUEMINE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Plaquemine woman has been indicted on mail fraud and wire fraud charges.

26-year-old Lestreonia Renee Rodrigue is accused of submitting unemployment benefits claims and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) benefits claims under other names between July 2020 and June 2021, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Louisiana.

Through fraud schemes, Rodrigue had $20,833 deposited into her bank account and received $500,000 in prepaid debit cards in the mail, according to a news release from Acting United States Attorney Ellison C. Travis.

An investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Department of Labor is underway.

On Oct. 22, Rodrigue pled not guilty to the charges at her arraignment.
