Pointe Coupee Parish Fire District 5 Chief reflects on 2021

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Pointe Coupee Parish Fire District 5 (PCPFD5) Chief Pedro Leonard looks back on the previous year and asks for volunteers.

PCPFD5 responded to 1,311 calls, which was an increase of 27% from 950 calls in 2020. The fire district was awarded a $24,900 grant from Fire House Subs for a fire rescue boat.

“This will give our district as well as surrounding districts additional protection on waterways throughout the parish,” Leonard said. “With pre-staged equipment ready to deploy, this unit can respond to fires with limited access, drowning with dive recovery as well as other rescue ops in the area.”

Four AED’s were purchased by the fire district from an awarded grant. Leonard says that having the units in service gave responders quick access to the needed equipment.

“This resulted in a life save being made where 5 responders administered lifesaver treatment to a juvenile within minutes of going into cardiac arrest,” he said. “The patient made a full recovery and the responders were awarded a fire service lifesaver award for their action.”

Leonard says that if anyone would like to become a member to contact the Pointe Coupee Fire Protection District No. 5 at (225) 638-3770 or stop by and pick up an application.
