POINTE COUPEE PARISH, La. – The Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) are investigating a boating accident involving three children.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff René Thibodeaux said on Sunday, Aug. 8 at around 3:45 p.m. a party barge struck three children in a tube pulled by another boat.

Thibodeaux said one child went to Pointe Coupee General Hospital, the second child was okay and the third child was “severely injured” with a broken pelvis and taken to another hospital for medical attention.

The driver of the party barge fled the scene, according to officials. The man allegedly went back to his home in Lafayette.

LDWF is leading the investigation.
