Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office partners with Mockler to provide Uber rides this holiday season

POINTE COUPEE, La. (BRPROUD) — The rising number of crashes during the holidays has Pointe Coupee officials taking measures to be proactive.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, there were several accidents reported in the parish. According to Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux, there were eight accidents but no fatalities. He said one person was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to a medical facility.

That same weekend was the deadliest crash weekend for the state in seven years.

“Do your due diligence to be responsible first as a driver,” said Secretary for the Department of Transportation and Development Shawn Wilson.

“So, here it is Christmas and we’re hoping that everyone takes a little bit more time and have a little bit more patience,” said Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux’s office is partnering with Mockler Beverage Company to provide safety rides throughout the holiday season.

“They get a discount on [an] Uber ride so why not utilize that, be smart for the holidays and come home,” said Thibodeaux.

He recommends using the service and other safety precautions as a way to cut back on deadly traffic accidents.

“There’s so many other ways to do it now. Find someone, get an Uber driver, there’s no excuse,” said Thibodeaux.
