Police: Convicted felon at large after traffic stop finds stolen firearm, drugs

THIBODAUX, La. (BRPROUD) – Two men face drug charges after a traffic stop by Thibodaux police.

On the morning of Aug. 12 officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Lafourche Drive and North 10th Street. Officers met the driver, Todd Chenier, and passenger, 29-year-old Jcorey Ballard of Thibodaux.

A K-9 notified officers of narcotics inside the vehicle, according to Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue. In the search, officers discovered a stolen firearm and small amounts of drugs including crack cocaine, marijuana and an unknown substance.

During the search, Chenier fled the location. Police said he remains at large.

Ballard was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex. His bond has been set at $2,250.

The Thibodaux Police Department said an arrest warrant will be obtained for Chenier.

Zeringue said Chenier is a convicted felon.
