BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man has been charged after attacking the mother of his unborn child, police say.

On May 4, the Baton Rouge Police Department Uniform Patrol arrived at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Hospital in reference to a battered pregnant woman. The woman told officers that she was 12 weeks pregnant and that the unborn child’s father, Eric Curry, kicked her in her stomach multiple times.

The police say the woman had severe trauma to her top lip and was spitting out blood.

The woman told officers that she went to a doctor’s appointment earlier that day and was told her fetus had a strong heartbeat and was healthy. She said Curry contacted her to discuss the appointment and the status of the fetus. He arrived at her residence and tried to get her to leave with him. She refused and Curry allegedly told her that he would kill her and the baby.

When she started walking away from Curry, he allegedly began to choke her until she lost consciousness and fell to the ground. She was awakened by multiple punches to her mouth which knocked out two of her front teeth.

While she was still on the ground, he allegedly began kicking her in the stomach four times.

She yelled which caused a family member to come and Curry left the scene.

Curry was later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the charges of attempted first-degree feticide, aggravated assault, second-degree battery, and battery of a dating partner.
