DONALDSONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – A popular family-owned fried chicken restaurant that’s served Donaldsonville for decades will be closing its doors for good at the end of May.

The Mistretta family, the owners of Chef’s Fried Chicken on West 10th Street and Walton Street, announced Tuesday that the restaurant’s last day of service will be Sunday, May 28. Bernardo’s Catering Pickup and Delivery will also no longer be in service beginning that day.

The Mistrettas say they are retiring for health reasons. They also extended their thanks to both patrons and staff for all of their support over the years.

Known for its southern specialties and Louisiana favorites, like po’boys and seafood dinners, the restaurant has been a staple in the community for 51 years.
