Proponents for St. George call opposition flyer ‘fraudulent’ and ‘misleading’

BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC Local 33) (FOX 44) — As election day nears, people living in the St. George area are seeing their mailboxes inundated with flyers – both in support of a new city and in opposition.

One flyer is especially raising eyebrows with proponents for the city of St. George. The glossy, 8 1/2 x 11, 4-page mailer attempts to overthrow those in favor. It is laden with statements taking aim at the budget which proponents have established and made available here.

NBC Local 33 sat down with Andrew Murrell, attorney spokesperson for the city of St. George where he addressed various claims and argued them as “misleading” and “fraudulent.”

The flyer, mailed by prominent businessman Richard Lipsey’s group ‘Put Louisiana First,’ hit mailboxes the week of Sept. 1.

Lipsey says he stands behind the mailer. In a statement released to NBC Local 33, he said:

Yes, I do stand behind the Put Louisiana First Flyer 100%, except for error on our part in proof reading where we mistakenly pick up the wrong number for the Central population..  That in itself when you insert the correct number makes the comparison even worse for St. George.
