Highway 16 near Hammock Road in Livingston Parish, residents urged drivers to slow down.
The water rushed from one side of the roadway to the other, and the drivers passing by are pushing more water into homeowners’ front yards.
“When I woke up this morning I had a toolbox floating in my front yard, trying to pick up all the porch and everything because we weren’t expecting it to just come up high all of a sudden,” said Rhonda Hughes.
“Well, the crazy thing is flooding as it is, Highway 16 today has been busier than Friday evening at 5:00,” said Matthew Evans.
Residents worked together to save their belongings and even animals. One neighbor’s cows are in another’s backyard because of the flooding.
