A furniture store in Livingston Parish was heavily damaged from yesterday’s (Sunday’s) storm.
V. Watts Furniture has been a family owned business for nearly six decades but for the first time they must rebuild their auction barn.
“We’re still processing that we have a building front down,” said Tammy Watts-Hardy, co-owner of V. Watts furniture.
On Sunday the roof of their auction barn fell off and instantly came crashing down to the ground
“It’s so strange because it was a beautiful day. The kids [were] out riding their four wheelers [and] playing in the house and then bam,” she said.
Withstanding Hurricane Katrina and other inclement weather Watts-Hardy says this was the first time the barn has been damaged, and it was unlike anything she’s ever seen.
“It started raining real bad. It was just absolutely crazy,” she said.
Believing it was a tornado that hadn’t yet touched the ground, she says all it took was a mere 20 seconds for the barn to be destroyed.
“The wind started blowing and the trees around the house started blowing in circles,” she said.
Though the roof came off tammy says that thankfully none of the furniture was destroyed and that her brothers plan on putting a tarp on the barn for the time being until they can get a new roof installed.
