AUSTIN, Texas – LSU’s week 2 opponent played another Louisiana team Saturday when they hosted the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
Quarterback Sam Ehlinger threw four touchdowns, and it was Tom Herman’s first time during his tenure as Texas head coach that the Longhorns won their season opener.
Herman said the previous seasons were “irrelevant,” but he stated how serious starting 1-0 was.
“It’s a testament to the mature of our team. The confidence we have to just let loose in the opener after the last two years,” Herman said.
Ehlinger wasn’t the only offensive star Saturday. Wide Receiver Devin Duvernay caught nine passes for 55 yards, including Ehlinger’s first touchdown of the game, and Brennan Eagles had two touchdown receptions of 28 and 25 yards between the second and third quarters.
The Bulldogs weren’t much of a challenge for the Longhorns in Texas’ 45-14 win, and when asked about looking ahead to week 2 against LSU while preparing for LA Tech, Herman assured that the players were locked in for their season opener.
“The letters LSU never came out of anybody’s mouth the entire nine months since we left New Orleans. The leaders in the locker room know how the openers turned out the last couple of years.”
The Tigers travels to Austin to face the Longhorns on September 7th. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
