According to a report by SafeWise, Louisiana ranks #9 in the number of impaired driving deaths per capita in the nation. New York was found to be the safest, while Montana was the worst.

SafeWise says this is how they compiled their list:

Our analysts used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to find the number of impaired driving deaths in each state, then compared that data to Census population estimates to determine which states had the highest rate of impaired driving deaths per 100,000 residents.

Arkansas came in #14 on the most impaired driving deaths.  There study also found ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft lowered the number of impaire deaths. Since this data goes through 2016, and Uber and Lyft greatly expanded here in Louisiana in 2017 and 2018, there is a likelihood Louisiana could drop on the list in the future.
