BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – St. George Fire Department will have a special guest riding with them in December.

For the first two weekends in December, Santa will ride on a fire truck while volunteers from The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul collect food and toy donations for families in need. Place bagged donations at the end of the driveway or have them pre-bagged and ready for when you come out and see Santa.

When Santa can be heard coming down the street, come out and wave to let Santa know he can throw candy to the children. The fire department says not to approach the fire engine and asks that gifts be handed to the volunteers in a vehicle behind Santa’s ride. The fire department says that trying to hand gifts directly to Santa is unsafe.

One side of Airline Highway each weekend will be paraded. Santa Claus and volunteers will be driving through subdivisions on the north and east sides of Airline Highway and those accessible from Airline Highway Dec. 4 through Dec. 5. On Dec. 11 through Dec. 12, Santa will ride through the neighborhoods on the south and west side of Airline Highway.

Parades will leave the fire stations at 10 a.m. on Saturday and noon Sunday and will return at 5 p.m. each weekend. More information will be available on the St. George Fire Department Facebook page.
