SCAM ALERT: EBRSO warns residents of scam callers portraying to work for police

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office is investigating a telephone scam after receiving a complaint from a resident.

The victim advised that they received a call from someone portraying to work for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, attempting to collect funds for a jury duty no show. The suspect caller instructed the victim to obtain a Green Dot card and make the payment by phone to have an arrest warrant recalled.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office says they will never request payments by phone. If you receive any suspicious calls of this nature, do not provide them with any funds or any personal information. Hang up and report it to your local law enforcement agency. Anyone with information concerning this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office at 225-389-5009.
