School bus transporting children involved in accident on Old Hammond Hwy, one individual injured

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A school bus transporting over 20 children was involved in an accident on Old Hammond Hwy and Mason Drive.

The bus driver and all children on the bus were not injured, according to an EBR Schools spokesperson. Children were picked up by their parents or taken home on another bus.

EMS officials said one individual was injured and transported to a local hospital.

On Thursday evening, EBR Schools addressed the accident in a news release.

EBR Schools officials said approximately 23 Liberty Magnet High School students were on board when a vehicle rear-ended the bus. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital while the bus driver was taken to an urgent care for a protocol physical.

The parents and guardians of students who were on the bus during the crash were notified by the school. School officials said counselors and I CARE specialists will be at the school on Friday for students interested in discussing their experience with a professional.
