BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- Millennial Park is set to open its second location in June of 2021.
The first phase of opening will be ready by the fall.
CEO of Millennial Park, Cameron Jackson, opened the first park on Florida Blvd. at the start of the pandemic.
The shipping container park was a success after local businesses and vendors began to rely on the park to survive during the covid crisis.
“One way we were able to impact the community in a positive way is we have a lot of vendor events. That allowed a lot of small businesses to come and sell their products when during covid they were shut down and possibly not do as many things as they are used to,” Jackson said. “Having those events really helped and we got a lot of feedback just saying how much people loved it. It’s been great for the economics and a lot of people are saying thank you because during these hard times we didn’t really have anywhere else to go.”
Jackson says his goal with the expansion is to help local business stay afloat as the state prepares to loosen restrictions.
“The second location is a blessing. It will give more vendors and business owners a chance to you know, do what we’re doing here its just expanded,” Allison Sanders, project manager said.
The new location will host around 10 to 12 shipping containers which will give hundreds in the city an opportunity to showcase their business.
Restaurants, retailors and musicians are already trying to book at the new location.
“It’s also a way for our black community to unite. With crime being so written in this area, it is just something positive that this spot here can be a pillar to the community.”
Jackson is partnering with developers Anthony Kimball, Jullien Gordon and Tevin Wade to expand Millennial Park.
“I definitely believe it will bring more opportunity back,” Jackson said.
The new location will be around 14th and Government Street.
