Second off-campus LSU student tests positive for COVID-19

Local News

BATON ROUGE, LA (BRPROUD)– Louisiana State University has learned that another one of its off campus students has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The school issued the following statement to all members of the LSU community:

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

The LSU Student Health Center has confirmed a second case of coronavirus at LSU. The individual who has tested positive for the virus is a student at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and has not been on campus since March 13. The student does not live in on-campus housing and is currently in self-isolation. This individual reports that they are recovering well and are now asymptomatic, which we are elated to hear.

Those who are known to have been in close contact with this law student are being notified as well as the larger Law Center community. Please know that the CDC does not define being in the same classroom or office space with someone who tests positive as “close contact.”

Also, please know that for the past few weeks, we have been escalating our cleaning procedures across campus, including the Law Center.

Our thoughts and well wishes are with this student, and we all stand together during these trying times. Please continue to follow federal and state guidelines about social distancing, hand washing, and avoiding groups of more than 10 people. If we work together, and all do our part, we can help stop the spread of this terrible virus that has hit the world so hard. The health and safety of the LSU community is of the utmost importance to us, and we urge you to stay at home whenever possible, and to keep up with the latest developments on the local and national news and at lsu.edu/coronavirus.

We will all get through this together.
