BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is granting Baton Rouge and New Orleans millions in grants to fund emergency HIV relief.

Baton Rouge will receive $1,487,305 and New Orleans will receive $2,494,803 from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program, according to Cassidy.

“As a doctor treating uninsured HIV patients, you see the effects that HIV has on a community,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding is crucial to reducing HIV infection in our state.”

The Ryan White Program provides a comprehensive system of HIV primary medical care, essential support services, and medications to improve health outcomes and reduce HIV transmission among hard-to-reach populations.
