BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — East Baton Rouge senior citizens put on their dancing shoes for Senior Skip Day 2.0. It’s a free event to get away from senior centers, interact with others, and most importantly, a way to enforce self-care.
“The purpose of this event is to combat senior isolation while also combating senior hunger,” said Angell Jackson Kennedy, chief marketing and information officer at East Baton Rouge Council on Aging. “We added a wellness or self-care element to allow them to meet with different vendors. And regarding to health care as well as get some vaccinations that are needed for them right now.”
Kennedy said this is the second annual Senior Skip Day event and it’s a day that brings together 21 different senior centers along with four nutrition sites in the area.
“We love our seniors. They are the most vulnerable part of our community, and we want to make sure they are taken care of and they stay healthy,” she said.
Sherman Jones, a senior citizen attendee, was excited to be at the event, saying, “It’s bringing your seniors together, giving your seniors something to do.”
