Honking and screaming throughout various Denham Springs neighborhoods, seniors at Denham Springs High held a parade Friday afternoon.
“We decided to have a senior parade for all the seniors since we’re missing out on so many of our senior year activities,” Kate Thompson said. “[This is] a way to get together one last time tell each other goodbye.”
Friday would’ve been the students last day of school. Thompson is class president and tried to rally as many students as she could. More than 100 ended up participating.
“For us to just go through our neighborhoods and just see everybody that we grew up with in our neighborhoods, and all come together and stuff is really nice,” Emily Kolb said.
Kolb is a class officer. She says in the beginning it was tough being away from school and her friends but she’s trying to make the best of it.
“It’s been hard but it makes [me] feel better when I think about that it’s not just us it’s everybody across the country who’s going through this stuff,” Kolb said. “[It’s] kind of like we’re all united in that sense.”
Her mom says the class of 2020 has been through a lot but she’s happy they’re able to commemorate their achievements in this way.
“These kids have not had the chance to participate in anything for their senior year so to be able to do this for them…every little bit is a memory for them,” Andie Kolb said.
As parents and neighbors waved to the Class of 2020, seniors say though their year didn’t go as planned they’re happy to end it together.
Students say their graduation date is still up in the air but they’ve been told there will be some sort of commencement celebration in the future.
