Series of Burglaries in Denham Springs Leaves Woman Shot

Local News

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD)– This past weekend, several Denham Springs neighborhoods were targeted by burglars.

The Denham Springs Police Department and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) are investigating.

LPSO Chief Deputy Sheriff Jason Ard said, “We have a lot of stuff to put together, we are asking questions, we’re canvassing the area. We don’t know if we have a suspect, but we feel like we have some decent evidence that will probably lead us to some decent suspects.”

DSPD Police Chief Shannon Womack said, “The burglaries we had were on the west side of town, south of Florida Boulevard. so South Woodcrest, James Street, Connie Drive, all of that area.”

Off of Florida Blvd., one person experienced more than just theft.

In one of these burglary attempts, a woman was shot right outside of her home.

The homeowner did sustain some major injuries, but she is expected to be okay.

That night a neighbor said she heard a gunshot, screams for help, and a man’s voice.

Ard said, “The suspect fled the scene. We responded and we’ve been canvassing the area ever since.”

No firearms have been reported stolen; however, they do believe that the burglaries may be connected.

“In the description that the victim gave us, was pretty similar to the suspect DSPD has on camera, so we feel like it is possible the same person.,” said Ard.

DSPD said there was a shared theme among many of the vehicle burglaries.

Womack said, “In the bigger burglaries that occurred on Friday night, in every single one of them, the car was unlocked.”

Local officials encourages everyone to lock up and stay safe.
