BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — In honor of Veteran’s Day, service members are stepping behind the bar to serve beer. One local brewery is partnering with a charity to raise money for veterans and their families.

The name of the event is “VETS on TAP.” About 15% of bar room sales and all tips will go to the Heroes Games Charity.

The money will be given to the kids of service members. To help start their college and trust funds.

“Every veteran whether it’s to a combat zone or to multiple training exercises they all have time away from their family. They’ve all sacrificed something in some way and Veteran’s Day is the day to say thank you for that sacrifice you made,” said Sargeant Zachary Garner, the coordinator and Army veteran who served for 11 years.

Sgt. Garner says it’s the first of many charity events for the Tin Roof Brewing Company. The purpose is to connect with other soldiers and share unique experiences.

“Beer and the community – what Tin Roof does is provide to the community and a place to meet up and tell stories and feel like we’re around our friends again,” said Garner.

Along with beer, there will be food trucks and games. Alcohol will only be served to those over the age of 21.

The event is happening until 9:00 p.m. on Friday at Tin Roof, located at 1624 Wyoming St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
