Several athletic camps available to students this summer in Livingston Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Local students have plenty of options when it comes to choosing which athletic summer camps to attend this summer, as Livingston Parish is hosting several camps for football, basketball, soccer and volleyball.

The following camps will be held over the summer:

Walker High Elementary Football Camp

The WHS football camp for elementary students entering first through fifth grade will be held Monday, May 24 through Thursday, May 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the school’s football field. The gym will be used if the weather conditions don’t permit for outdoor activities.

WHS coaches and players will teach participants the basic fundamentals of offense and defense. Participants will compete in flag football games and an obstacle course.

The camp costs $100 per participant. Guardians can choose to pick up participants at 5:30 p.m., but the late pick-up option costs an additional $60. If WHS receives a participant’s payment by Thursday, May 20, that participant will be guaranteed a camp t-shirt. Participants may also purchase concessions at the camp.

Walker High Middle School Football Camp

WHS will also host a football camp for middle schoolers who will be entering grades 6, 7 or 8. The camp will last from Monday, May 24 to Thursday, May 27. Each camp day will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4 p.m., and the camp will be held at the school’s football field or gym, depending on weather conditions.

Coaches and players will teach participants the basics of the WHS Spread Offense, as well as drills and techniques that high school players learn. Campers will further learn how to play certain positions and cultivate their defensive skills. Campers will also participate in a 7-on-7 passing competition against one another.

The camp costs $100, and guardians can choose to pay an additional $60 if they need to pick up a participant at 5:30 p.m. Any participants who are paid for by Thursday, May 20 will be guaranteed a camp t-shirt. Participants can buy concessions at camp.

Walker High School Volleyball Camps

WHS will host two volleyball camps for students in grades two through eight. The first camp will be on Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23, and the second camp will be on Tuesday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 14. Both days during both camps will start at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

Each camp costs $75, but students can register to participate in both camps for a combined total of $125.

Participants will receive a t-shirt and pizza, and a concession stand will be open during the camps for participants and parents.

Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

Walker Basketball Camp

Boys and girls entering grades one through eight can participate in a basketball camp at Walker High School’s new gym from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 1 through Friday, June 4.

If participants pre-register and mail in an application by Monday, May 24, the camp will only cost $80. Participants can register on the first day of camp for $100. If a guardian registers more than one participant from the same household, it will only cost an additional $50 per participant after the initial $80 or $100 is paid for the first participant.

The fees cover a camp t-shirt and individual and group instruction.

Checks should be made payable to Coach Anthony Schiro at 9677 Florida Blvd., Walker, La., 70785.

In addition to Schiro, campers will receive instruction from Korey Arnold, Shannon Lowe, Donnie Goodson, Meoka Young, Bryan Berry and current and former WHS basketball players.

Walker High School Summer Youth Soccer Camp

WHS will host two soccer camps this summer, rain or shine. The first, a one-day skills clinic, will be on Friday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It costs $50, and lunch will be provided to participants.

The second camp, Camp Futbol, will last from Monday, July 19 to Friday, July 23. The camp will begin at 2 p.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. each day. It costs $150, which includes a daily dinner. Participants will also receive a free camp t-shirt.

Both camps will be staffed by Lady Wildcat players and coaches and will be held at Wildcat Stadium.

Live Oak/Tiras Magee Basketball Camp

This basketball camp, which will be run by Tiras Magee at the Live Oak High School gym, is reserved for students in first grade through eighth grade.

The camp will start on Monday, May 24 and end on Thursday, May 27. It costs $100 per participant.

North Corbin Bears Basketball Camp

This camp, held at the North Corbin Junior High gym, will start on Monday, May 24 and end on Thursday, May 27. Each camp day will last from 9 a.m. to noon.

It’s reserved for boys and girls entering grades one through eight.

Former and current Walker High School basketball players will help Denham Springs High School Girls’ Basketball Head Coach Rudy Smith and NCJH Girls’ Basketball Head Coach Megan Almand run the camp.

Participants who pre-register by Monday, May 17 will pay $80. It will only cost an additional $50 to register another child in the same household.

Participants who register on-site will be charged $100.

Participants can pay in cash or make checks payable to Almand. Participants should drop off registration information and payments to the NCJH office or mail it to Almand at 32725 N. Corbin Road in Walker, La. 70785.
