Sherwood Forest homes damaged following Hurricane Ida in East Baton Rouge

Local News

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Several homes are damaged from fallen trees in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Kevin Williams said Hurricane Ida was a terrifying experience.

“The wind was very high, and I heard a big boom and the tree in my backyard fell across the neighbor’s house,” Williams said. “It hit my house, and the wind blew his roof on top of my roof. It was frightening, but thank the Lord no one was hurt.”

Uprooted trees and debris are littered all across the parish. Leaders said 10 people had to be rescued following the hurricane, and one person was hurt.

Dozens of chainsaw crews were spread out across the parish to remove trees and debris from roadways.

Residents cleaning yards are urged to pull leaves and branches from their ditches and street curbs so they don’t wash down storm drains, causing clogs.
