Wings ‘N More in Baker took a big hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rachid Laamarini is their owner. He says before the pandemic everyone loved to eat his award-winning food, but business slowed down after the shutdown. Now more than ever he’s wanting everyone in the community to support local businesses if they can.
“I’m trying my best to keep my own place open,” Laamarini, the restaurant owner said. “If you support us, basically we stay open. We know corona hit everybody. Small business, big business, it’s a hard time for everybody.
Down the road, Lloyd Ruffins owns Ruffins restaurant and several other businesses in the area. He too is dealing with the financial woes brought by the coronavirus. Now he’s hoping the community will come out and support.
“I think for all communities, specifically here in baker as well, you have to have businesses,” Ruffins said. “Businesses allow for the community to grow.”
City leaders are now offering help through “Shop baker, shop local.” its a two-day event catered to helped all businesses throughout the city.
“Because of COVID, we want to try to help boost our economy here in baker to let our small businesses know that we’re here for you, we want to support you, and we want to do everything that we can to keep you going even in the midst of COVID,” Michele Woods said.
Michele Woods is the president of Baker’s Chamber of Commerce. She says gifts will be raffled off to those who participate.
Business owners say they’re proud to live in a community that supports them during this time.
