BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Christmas is just around the corner, and the Louisana Department of Health (LDH) is working to keep everyone safe from COVID-19.

Perkins Rowe’s annual “Santa Rocks the Rowe” event Saturday included ‘Shots for Santa,” a promotion to get more shots in peoples’ arms.

“It’s a great time to get vaccinated, everybody is going to be together for the holidays so help prevent the spread and get vaccinated today,” said Sheree Taillon, LDH COVID-19 Incentives Coordinator.

“Shots for Santa” is part of LDH’s Bring Back Louisiana campaign to expand vaccine accessibility and promote reliable information surrounding COVID-19 vaccination. Attendees can enjoy live music, games, face painting and more during the event.

Families stood in line at Perkins Rowe for their turn to get the COVID-19 shot. Ten-year-old Kayleigh Williams says she is glad she got her shot.

“I was nervous about it but it doesn’t hurt that much,” Williams said surrounded by her friends and family.

After receiving their dose, the event was filled with fun activities for the children.

“So Santa is out here, you can have a photo with Santa, also there is face painting there is free giveaways,” said Taillon.

And there is an added bonus if this is your first COVID-19 shot.

“We have 100-dollar gift cards for anybody who is receiving their first shot today,” said Taillon.

If you missed tonight’s events Taillon says there are many more.

“We actually have about forty to fifty events every single day where we are giving out the $100 gift cards,” Taillon said.

For Williams, she says even though she is vaccinated, it is important to do everything you can to stay safe.

“I feel like even though you got it you should still wear a mask just to protect yourself more,” said Williams.
