Family members of Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley describe him as a person with a big heart who loved his family and community.
They said the way he conducted himself on a daily basis, it just made sense that he wanted to serve as a police officer.
Officer LaValley’s cousin, Jeannie Averett wants people to know how special Thomas was.
She said, “Thomas cared for everyone, he didn’t treat people with a label or any type of animosity even if they had done something terribly wrong. He still treated them with the respect he thought they deserved as a fellow man”.
Family members felt an amount of closure after the capture of LaValley’s alleged murderer, but they can’t make sense of this tragedy.
Jeannie say that the extended family in uniform are making it a little better.
She said, “We have so much support from our family of blue. That’s pretty incredible and it’s really helped a lot for us to keep our faith and our composure and do what we need to do today”.
Jeannie said that the best way we can all honor the memory of officer Thomas LaValley is to recognize the men and women who serve and protect us everyday.
Officer LaVally was laid to rest at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant.
