ST. JAMES PARISH, La (BRPROUD) — St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office say they are receiving a lot of complaints regarding an increase of ATV, dirt bikes, and golf carts riding through the parish.
“We would like to take this opportunity to remind our citizens that the operators of ATV’s, dirt bikes, and golf carts mist be at least 16 years of age and have a license. ATV’s dirt bikes, and golf carts are not permitted on private property, which also mean sugarcane roads…the operator must be a licensed driver,” a statement from the St. James Parish Sherriff’s Office.
Along with the complaints, SJPSO has also receive notice from property owners saying they are being threatened by teenage dirt bike operators after they instruct them to get off of their private property.
“It is a criminal offense to threaten harm to another person,” a statement from the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say if the operators of the ATV’s, dirt bikes, and golf carts say they have permission to be on the private property, the operator should have a notarized letter from the property owner granting permission to be on the property.
