Slain man found in Port Allen identified

PORT ALLEN, LA (WVLA/WGMB)- The activist shot and killed outside of his home has those who knew him heartbroken over his death.

“He loved Port Allen,” councilman Brandon Brown said. “He wanted it to be a better city.”

Brown describes his friend Larry Profit. He was found dead Thursday morning from a gunshot wound.

“He would go around helping people and doing nice things for people,” Gregory Daniels, a friend of Profit said.

Daniels says he’s been knowing profit for years and couldn’t believe what happened. He says profit understood that the youth were a big part of what Port Allen could become, so he made sure he spent years creating an environment for the city’s future to thrive.

“He would make sure that we look out for the children,” Brown said. “He was very outspoken, he cared about the community, was passionate and wanted to see Port Allen move forward,”

So, when they found out about his death it left them at a loss for words.

“He was a good guy. He didn’t bother nobody, and he didn’t mess with anybody,” Daniel’s said. “I was shocked,” Brown said. “I wouldn’t expect that to happen to anybody, let alone him.”

Now that profit is gone and the community is mourning, those that knew him say they are going to continue his work of community service and activism.
