ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — A Slidell man has been arrested after allegedly using a stolen credit card to make a $5,000 purchase.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted in April to investigate a potential financial crime when a lumber store in Sorrento said the suspect allegedly used a stolen credit card to buy thousands of dollars worth of building materials via telephone.

The suspect, 65-year-old Willie Lee Austin Jr. of Slidell, was identified by APSO detectives. Authorities said he was arrested in Mississippi before being extradited to Ascension Parish.

Austin was booked into the parish jail on Sept. 13. He faces a felony theft charge.

His bond has been set to $10,000.
