St. George Fire Department announces arson arrest for hotel fire

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – St. George Fire Department has made an arrest after responding to a Wednesday afternoon hotel fire

St. George Fire Department was called to the 7900 block of Essen Park due to water flow alarms being activated. Firefighters made their way to the floor and water and smoke in the hallway. Firefighters found the room and were met with heavy smoke.

“Upon entry, firefighters were met by heavy smoke; lit candles were found all over the bedroom and a large portion of the mattress had burned but was successfully extinguished by the sprinklers,” an official press release said.

A St. George investigator was called to the scene to confirm the cause of the fire and an arrest was made on one count of negligent arson on Thursday, Dec. 16.
