ST. HELENA, La (BRPROUD) – St. Helena Parish School District has announced new COVID-19 procedures for the upcoming spring semester.

On Thursday, Jan. 6, students in odd-numbered grades will start school. On Friday, Jan. 7, students in even-numbered grades will start school. This process was selected due to the grades’ locations on campus. The school district says the staggered schedule will help maintain social distancing as COVID-19 tests are administered.

Grades that start school on Thursday, Jan. 6:

  • Pre-kindergarten
  • 1st grade
  • 3rd grade
  • 5th grade
  • 7th grade
  • 9 th grade
  • 11th grade

Grades that start school on Friday, Jan. 7:

  • Kindergarten
  • 2nd grade
  • 4th grade
  • 6th grade
  • 8th grade
  • 10th grade
  • 12th grade

All students will be tested when they arrive on their first day back to school. After a student is tested, parents can do the following:

Students without signed consents and COVID-19 testing consents on file will not be tested by Southeast Community Health Systems upon return to school. Students who registered for weekly COVID-19 tests through the Louisiana Department of Health and Omega Diagnostics can get tested on Tuesday, Jan. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their school site.

The district says families who choose to take the survey will be required to keep their child at home if any of their classmates test positive for COVID-19. A survey needs to be completed for each child. Virtual learning is not an option at this time.

Parents need to make sure their child has their face covering on before they get on the school bus and that they keep it on while on the bus. Masks must be worn at all times during the school day. Extracurricular activities, such as basketball and powerlifting, will continue as scheduled but the number of fans attending the games will be limited.
