ST. HELENA PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — St. Helena Parish residents chose “Clay” Chutz as their new sheriff. Incumbents won the assessor seat and three police jury positions.
The clerk of court race and those for police jury districts 2 and 3 will go to a runoff.
Across Louisiana, voters cast ballots for the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer in the Saturday, Oct. 14 primary.
Chutz, a Democrat, took the sheriff’s seat with 55% of the vote in complete but unofficial results on the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office website.
Incumbent Wesley Blades, Democrat, keeps the assessor seat with 57% of the vote.
Incumbent Jule Charles Wascom, Democrat, is the police juror for District 1 with 51% of the vote.
The District 4 police jury incumbent Warren McCray, Democrat, got 62% of the vote in complete but unofficial results.
Incumbent Ryan Byrd, Democrat, takes the District 5 police jury seat with 52% of the vote.
Races going to runoffs
The clerk of court race will go to a runoff between Jeremy M. Williams, Democrat, and Toni Holland, Independent. Williams had 37% of the vote, and Holland had 31%.
The race for the District 2 police jury seat will go to a runoff between Quanika Muse, Democrat, with 45% of the primary vote, and Byron “Chad” Hurst, Democrat, with 19% of the vote.
The District 3 police jury seat also is a runoff between incumbent Willie J. Morgan, Democrat, who had 46% of the vote and Paxton Gordon, Democrat, who drew 23%.
The general election will be Nov. 18. Early voting is set for 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 3-11 (excluding Sunday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 10 in honor of Veteran’s Day). Learn where you can cast early ballots here.
