St. James Parish posts electrical safety reminder for residents

Local News

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – St. James Parish issued an electrical safety reminder to all residents following the completion of power restorations in the parish on Friday, Oct. 1.

When Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana in August, parishes in the southeastern portion were without power for weeks. Some parishes such as St. John the Baptist, are still recovering from the destruction the hurricane left in its wake.

“We want to remind all residents that while power has been restored throughout our community, there are still a number of remaining downed lines and wires that have not yet been cleaned up by Entergy,” St. James Parish said in a Facebook post. “Please do not assume any of these remnant wires are safe. Many lines may still be energized.”

The Facebook post says to not pick up or touch downed power lines. If a resident should find one, they need to call Entergy at 1-(800)-368-3749.
