ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La (BRPROUD) – St. John the Baptist is setting the holiday spirit with a spark.

Parish President Jaclyn Hotard said that tradition will bring residents and visitors to the River Parishes on Christmas Eve to see the beauty of the bonfires that are lined along the levee.

“Bonfires are a very special tradition and residents work very hard crafting these structures to light the way for Papa Noel,” Hotard said.

To conduct this event safely, permits are required for the construction of a bonfire on the levee. Permit applications will be available at the Emergency Operations Center in LaPlace, La on Friday, Nov. 19. The center is located at 1801 W. Airline Hwy.

“We are excited to bring the Christmas bonfires back to St. John this year to help spread Christmas joy at a time when our community needs it most,” Hotard said.
